May this serve as my outward commitment to some Crossfit goals (yes, I was asked to come up with some. And please note that I mean crossfit somewhat loosely here). But before I get into that, let’s celebrate some progress:
1- I think I joined Xfit back in March, which means I’ve been training for a few months now, and I have no plans to stop.
2- I went from jumping rope like an uncoordinated (but happy) little girl, to at least doing single unders a bit more gracefully (with FORM). NOT BY MOVING MY KILOMETRIC ARMS…Oh…and I actually got 3 double unders…yes I did…
3- I found out that I have a tight upper back. Really? Self-awareness is always good, and may I add, a very cool thing that crossfit does for you.
4- I now understand the crazy writing…AMRAP, EMOM, some of the Crossfit ladies, DUs, OHS, and the likes…because for a second there, I was seriously starting to question my English-speaking ability
5- I have found a real cool box, with real cool people, and awesome trainers to learn all of this.
6- I found out I have very flexible hips (?), but the combination of my long legs and long arms just make it for a long trip up and down as I squat. BTW, what is up with all the squatting? Love it!
7- I really love deck squats and could do them all the time. Wut?
8- There’s a whole lot more to add to this list, but I won’t bore you…
Goals? I didn’t have any in mind, specifically. And now, comes the reason why I used the word crossfit “loosely”. My goals are not exactly all specific to crossfit. Here they are in no specific order:
1- Completing 10 unbroken double unders. (Whatever you 100-DU-people!
2- Some target weight (I need to figure out what it is, I always forget what my PRs are — yes…that’s how attached to “weight” I am…still not sure if it’s good or bad) for those damn overhead squats that I hate…oops…did I say that out loud? I mean loooovvveee
3- I need to learn how to kip to do my pull ups, toes to bar, chest to bar, etc. Did I mention I can be a bit uncoordinated? Brutal! My brother and sister (et al) compare me to the likes of giraffes, long-legged spiders, clumsy monkeys dragging their long arms around…yup…so mean…
4- CLIMBING at least a few grades higher than what I am currently climbing (5.11?). Same with BOULDERING. I’d like to lead some challenging routes outdoors. After all I’ve only been climbing for 1 1/2 years.
5- Complete that damn pole dance video to a very quirky and awesome superhero-themed song by the Voluptuaries
Timeframe? I don’t know! I’ll think about it.
In all seriousness, whatever it is you do that induces relaxation, smiling, failing, grunting, sweating, crying, creating, innovating…keep doing it. Bonus points for anything that makes you laugh at yourself.
Above, I listed a few that keep me “less crazy”.
PS: I have no idea why I wrote this, but i’m still pressing the POST button
